I have just come back from a 5 day shopping trip in Singapore during the 'Great Singapore Sales'
A great hotel to stay in is the Swissotel Merchant Court - the area around it comes alive at night along the river, with Clark Quay and a new multi story shopping centre across the road.
Fantastic areas for the sales are:
Orchard Road
Vivo City
The Raffles Centre
Marina Bay
Mustafas is a department store open 24 hours a day and full of everything you could ever imagine.
Once you're over the shopping some great places to visit are:
Sentosa Island (via cable car or metro)
Jurong Bird Park
Botanical Gardens
Singapore Flyer (observation wheel)
....just to name a few...
Singapore is extremely safe and clean and worth a stopover if you get the chance.
